Teeth that are cracked, worn flat or filled many times can fail without warning. A crown caps and protects what remains. Dr. Brittany Pierpont places crowns at Pier Dental and talks you through why one is, or is not, necessary.
Memphis Heights is about 19 miles from us in a straight line. That is one reason we like the TRIOS scanner: it gives us accurate records with less chair time.
What the scanner replaces

The TRIOS 3D wand creates a digital model of your tooth in a minute or two. No trays or putty are needed, which is a relief for anyone with a strong gag reflex.
Your crown is made in a dental lab from that model, and a temporary crown protects the tooth in between.

Does it need a root canal first?

If the nerve is infected, the tooth needs root canal therapy before a crown. We diagnose that with an exam and X-rays.
Dr. Pierpont does root canals in the office, and the crown often follows to protect the tooth.

A lighter option

When damage is limited, an inlay or onlay can restore the tooth without covering it entirely. It keeps more of your own structure.
We will tell you which one we would pick, and why, with no pressure.
