A crown fits over a tooth like a cap and restores its shape, strength and appearance. Dr. Brittany Pierpont uses them for teeth that are cracked, worn, weakened by a large filling or treated with a root canal. Our office is at 8351 Blind Pass Rd in St. Pete Beach.
From West Bradenton we are about 19 miles away by straight line and farther by road, so we explain the process before it starts. That includes how long the temporary crown stays on and when the final fit takes place.
How the scan works

Our TRIOS 3D intraoral scanner captures your tooth in color through a small handheld wand. There is no impression material to bite into or gag on.
The digital file goes to the dental lab, where your crown is made. A temporary crown covers the tooth until it returns.

A crown or a smaller repair

If only part of the tooth is damaged, an inlay or onlay may be enough. Either one saves more of the original tooth than a full crown.
We will recommend the smaller route whenever it will last. Free second opinions are available if you have a different plan.

Protecting a root canal tooth

A tooth that has had a root canal tends to be more brittle. A crown helps hold it together for the long run.
Dr. Pierpont does root canals in the office, so we can plan both steps together.
