When a tooth has a large filling, a deep crack or a root canal, a crown is often the sturdiest repair. Dr. Brittany Pierpont fits dental crowns at Pier Dental for patients from Seminole and nearby areas.
Crowns are matched to your surrounding teeth so they blend in. We will discuss material and appearance before anything is made.
Crown treatment, start to finish

We examine the tooth, reshape it, and capture its outline with a TRIOS digital scan. The crown is built to that scan, and a temporary one protects the tooth meanwhile.
At the delivery visit, the permanent crown is bonded and your bite is tested. Many crowns last a decade or more with brushing, flossing and routine checkups.

Keeping a tooth with a root canal

Infection in the pulp can be removed through root canal therapy, and the tooth is then sealed. Without a protective crown, a treated back tooth may fracture under chewing force.
If you are unsure why a tooth hurts, an exam and X-rays will show whether it needs this treatment.

Fillings that last, and when they do not

A modest cavity can be repaired with a white filling. Larger cavities weaken the tooth, and a filling may fail long before a crown would.
Dr. Pierpont will tell you if a filling is still reasonable or if stepping up to a crown now will save trouble later.
