Dental Crowns in Boca Ciega, FL

Pier Dental

A crown that fits, feels natural and protects a tooth that has seen better days.

When a tooth has lost too much structure to hold a filling, a crown can rebuild it. Dr. Brittany Pierpont fits custom crowns at Pier Dental for teeth with large fillings, cracks or decay, and for worn or misshapen teeth.

She can also use crowns to anchor a bridge. We explain how long the process takes and what each stage feels like before we start.

How a crown is made and placed

The visit begins with numbing and shaping the tooth. A digital impression from our TRIOS scanner goes to the lab, and you wear a temporary crown meanwhile.

At the second visit the final crown is bonded on, checked for bite and polished.

When a root canal comes first

If decay or damage has reached the nerve, a root canal removes the infected tissue and ends the pain. The tooth is then usually capped with a crown to protect it.

We talk through both steps up front, including what to expect afterward.

Onlays as a middle option

An onlay covers part of the chewing surface and leaves more of your tooth in place than a crown does. It is made of porcelain or composite.

If an onlay will do, Dr. Pierpont will say so.
