A crown covers and protects a tooth that is cracked, worn or mostly filling. When you are driving about 21 miles from Erie in a straight line, you want to know the number of visits before you begin.
Dr. Brittany Pierpont explains that schedule during your first appointment. She also performs root canals in the office, so a painful tooth does not need two practices.
The digital scan

TRIOS is a 3D intraoral scanner. A thin wand records the tooth and the neighboring teeth in color, with no putty or trays.
The file goes to the lab so your crown is made from precise information.

Temporary crown and fitting

Between visits a temporary crown protects the tooth. Avoid sticky foods and chew on the other side until the permanent one arrives.
If the temporary comes loose, call us and we will advise you.

Choosing an onlay instead

If most of the tooth is healthy, an onlay restores the damaged section and saves more natural tooth. A crown is better when the damage is widespread.
We explain the reasons for our recommendation.
