If a tooth is breaking down, a crown may be the most dependable fix. Dr. Brittany Pierpont places dental crowns at Pier Dental for patients near Lealman with cracked, worn or heavily restored teeth.
We also use them after root canals and to anchor certain bridges. Material and shade are chosen with you.
The crown timeline

We reshape the tooth and make a digital model with our TRIOS scanner. The model goes to a lab, and you wear a temporary in the meantime.
At the final visit your crown is bonded and your bite is adjusted. Mind your brushing and flossing, and it can serve you for a decade or more.

Choosing between a crown and a filling

Small cavities do fine with a white filling. When decay or old fillings take away most of a tooth, a crown protects what remains.
Dr. Pierpont will tell you honestly which side of that line your tooth is on, and why.

Inlays and onlays

Moderate damage may call for an inlay or onlay. These porcelain or composite pieces sit inside or on top of the tooth and conserve more of it than a crown.
They are made from a digital impression and bonded on. If an onlay will do, there is little reason to grind down the whole tooth.
